About UsOur MissionThin & High is a non-profit organization founded in 1997 with the mission of cultivating our members to contribute and to serve, to respect and be proud of our heritage, to improve Sino-American relationship, as well as to appreciate nature and to protect the environment. We place particular emphasis on volunteerism by engaging our members to partake in projects to promote literacy and education, to provide disaster relief, to improve the environment, and to honor the WWII veterans. Our Founder The life of our founder, Bernard Yang, is an inspiring story of one humble man's journey of spiritual growth and deep commitment for serving the underprivileged. The son of a WWII pilot in the 14th Air Force Chinese American Composite Wing (Flying Tigers), Bernard had developed since his childhood a strong passion for honoring fallen heroes who sacrifice their lives for others. And as a devout Buddhist, Bernard had made a great vow to deliver sentient beings from sufferings. In the summer of 1989, Bernard gave up his comfortable life in America and set foot on Mainland China for the first time with the personal mission to serve the people in his motherland. In the spring of 2001, the China Charity Federation nominated Bernard to be its Specially Invited Council Member, and in October 2005, Bernard received a national award for being one of the 10 most accomplished charity workers in China. |
